Sliver of Light: between two eternities of darkness

Flying from Tokyo to San Francisco, somewhere over the Pacific Ocean, returning home after the death of my father, I read the tattered pages of the book by Vladimir Nabokov, an unforgettable passage: life is a Sliver of Light between two eternities of darkness.

That passage has haunted me ever since and I have made many sketches and paintings trying to understand or come to terms with the enormity of this truth: that the darkness before our birth is as vast and infinite as the darkness after our death.

We often forget to consider the enormity of these two immutable infinites, and yet within these vast spaces, what fascinates me even more are the glowing elements of radiant light that culminate in the Sliver of Light we call life.
